NFU Welshpool celebrates success after winning 2016 Agricultural Business Award


The NFU Welshpool team is at the top after winning the Farm Business of the Year award at this year’s prestigious Powys Business Awards.

After battling against other farm businesses, NFU Welshpool was shortlisted this summer and was announced as the winner on Friday.

On Friday September 30, the Welshpool team visited the Dering Lines Infantry Fighting School in Brecon for the awards ceremony.

The awards, organized by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and sponsored by Powys County Council, celebrate excellence in business across the county.

240 guests attended this year’s awards ceremony with TV weather personality Derek Brockway for the evening.

Cllr Avril York, a member of the Powys County Council Regeneration and Planning Cabinet, congratulated the 37 finalists in the award categories, saying they represented all that was good for the county’s businesses.

The Farm Business Award, sponsored by Lanyon Bowdler, sought out businesses that have demonstrated business success, evidence of growth, sustainability and support for the rural economy and community.

The category judges said that NFU Welshpool was “driven by strong and effective leadership from Steve Kenyon.

“This NFU branch in Welshpool has transformed its operations to see it rise to the rank of the best performing branches in the UK.

“His enthusiasm and energy are a source of motivation for the staff and they have implemented a number of innovative programs to support the farming community including their Farm Watch and Dog Line program. “

Steve Kenyon, NFU Welshpool, commented: “It is fantastic recognition for NFU Welshpool to be crowned the Farm Business of the Year at the Powys Business Awards – and we are all extremely delighted with this victory.
