The government’s move came about a month and a half after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) swept the APMC polls by winning 14 of the total 18 seats out of seven roughly seven mandis in the nation’s capital.
The decision to order a special audit of the DAMB and APMCs appears to be aimed at uncovering alleged irregularities during previous BJP and Congress regimes.
The Audit Branch has been tasked by the Ministry of Finance of the Delhi Government to audit the DAMB and seven APMCs for fiscal years 2013-14 and 2014-15 and submit a report within 20 days.
“Several teams have been formed by the Audit Department to examine the income from market fees in the APMCs, the engineering work / equipment works carried out by the APMC / DAMB, the procurement expenditure in the APMC / DAMB, ”said a senior government official.
According to the order issued by the Audit Department, seven APMCs that are to be audited are Azadpur, Okhla, Keshopur, Narela, Najafgarh and Ghazipur.
